GPC Electronics support Weekend to End Women’s Cancers

Sydney – June 2014

GPC Electronics are throwing their support behind two of their staff members, Leonore Charman and Gail Dobson, who have both signed up for the 60 km walk on the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers® on the 8th & 9th of November.

The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers benefits the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. It’s a Weekend to remember the lives we have lost to breast or gynaecologic cancer and a Weekend to celebrate the lives we are saving. This is a Weekend creating hope for every woman’s future.

Management and staff of GPC Electronics are supporting the ladies with personal sponsorship and by getting involved with their monthly fundraising events.

The ladies launched their campaign on World Cancer Day Tuesday 04 February by selling Pink Ribbons. In just a few short months, they have raised over $2,000 thanks to the generosity of their work colleagues.

To date, the ladies have had a Valentines Day cake stall, three ‘Lucky Number’ draws, an in-house Shave for a Cure – where Maher Maarbani (Group Manager Quality and Test Engineering) and Martin Ruff (Supply Chain Analyst) both volunteered to have their heads shaved, raising over $1,000. To celebrate Easter, GPC held a BBQ for the staff, and the ladies made up a gigantic Easter Hamper full of goodies which they raffled on the day. In May the ladies sold over 100 cupcakes and had a Mothers Day raffle. Coming events include a Coin Toss for a bottle of fine Whisky, a Christmas in July event, Daffodil Day, a Warehouse Shopping Tour, a Father’s Day Raffle, a Breast Cancer Awareness event and a Monster raffle with the promise of over 30 prizes up for grabs (any donations greatly accepted).

When Gail Dobson heard about the Walk, she thought it would be a great way for her to contribute

Leonore Charman heard about the Walk from her Aunt who is also participating.

Both ladies think that the Walk is a perfect opportunity to show support for those that have been touched by cancer in some way and agree that it will definitely be a weekend to remember.
