GPC New Zealand opens new facility

Christchurch - September 2001

GPC Electronics (NZ) officially opened its new 1,850sq m (20,000 sq ft) assembly plant in Christchurch today.
The rapidly expanding company is the country's biggest electronics assembly contractor. The new facility was opened to cater for the increased production demand that the company has taken on.

Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton and Mayor Gary Moore officiated at today's opening. In his speech Mr Anderton said, “Christchurch has been a leader in establishing a high-tech electronics cluster. High tech new businesses find Christchurch attractive because it has some competitive advantages. It is relatively easy to locate and attract highly-skilled staff here.”

General Manager Murray Lynn said, “GPC has already invested millions in Christchurch and has put about $1 million of surface-mount placement lines into the new plant."

The firm does work for local and international customers including those in Australia and Singapore. In New Zealand it does assembly for electronics companies in Auckland and Wellington, as well as Christchurch.

GPC Electronics produces many printed circuit assemblies as well as complete box-build of finished electronics products. Management of component procurement, vendor networks and global logistics is also handled by the company.

GPC provides its customers with a high level of engineering and management support, at very competitive prices. Highly skilled engineers and managers are available in Christchurch at internationally competitive rates.
